SEWING TIPS
A few hints to help make your life easier:
1. If youÕre tired of the clutter in your sewing room, hang an over-the-door shoe organizer over the door. ItÕs great for scissors, rotary cutters, rulers, small fabric pieces, etc. Voila! Instant organization!
2. Do you sit on the couch to do hand work and watch TV? Push a straight pin with a big head into the arm of the couch at an angle. Then hang your small scissors on the pin to keep them close by.
3. When binding or quilting a large quilt that is hot and heavy, drop your ironing board down over your lap. It will support the quilt and take the pressure off your legs! This is a great tip for the hot weather.

GUILD GLIMMERS
The weather couldnÕt have been nicer, the food better, or the company more delightful at our July picnic. With fat quarters piled up awaiting Quilto winners, and art cards a-plenty awaiting exchange, quilters sampled each othersÕ salads and desserts, catching up on each othersÕ summer travels. The Art Center redwoods provided backdrop and shade as President Tackett called out Quilto clues and energized winners planned an assault on Vegas.
Thanks to all who brought food for the hungry, fabric for the players, art quilt cards to share, and dollars for the kitty. President Carol will be expanding on the art card idea in future meetings, so stay tuned.

ART IN THE REDWOODS
August 18—20
No Guild Meeting
One of the highlights of Art in the Redwoods, and one of which PPQG can be justifiably proud, is the quilt raffle. This year the lucky winner will be announced at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 20.
The quilt this year, entitled Rainbow Dreams, is a queen-sized bedcover which was designed by Lola DeLongoria. It was pieced and finished by Lola, Joyce Gaudet, Laura Hamilton, and Mary Alice Bastian. The machine quilting was done by Sharon Malachowski.
The quilt had interesting origins. It began life as a Comfort Quilt which Lola intended for survivors of the Hurricane Katrina. But it was so beautiful and impressive that several people suggested that Lola enlarge it and submit it as the AIR quilt for 2006. It wasnÕt the easiest task to expand a lap quilt to a queen size, but Lola and her crew were up to the challenge and the results speak for themselves.
The fabrics were batiks that many of us have seen before — they were donated by Bali Fabrics. TheyÕve been used in many a Comfort Quilt, but it took LolaÕs artistry to design a quilt that qualified for AIR status. Marva Jacobs, of The Loft, generously donated the backing.
Rainbow Dreams is on display at The Dolphin Gift Shop and Gallery. You can get tickets there, at Gualala Arts, The Loft, Four-Eyed Frog Bookstore, JackÕs Gualala Pharmacy, and Point Arena Pharmacy.
All money from the sale of raffle tickets goes into a fund for art scholarship at Gualala Arts. When you buy a raffle ticket you are making sure a graduating student goes on to study art.
Those talented PPQG members who created the quilt have done their part. Now itÕs up to the rest of us to get behind this worthy project and buy up gazillions of tickets!

LIBRARY CORNER
By Ann Graf
After months on backorder, we have received the beautiful book by and titled NANCY CROW. Nancy is a pioneer of the modern art quilt movement, and is widely acclaimed as one of the worldÕs foremost artists making quilts today. Her quilts are in the permanent collections of world-class museums. This new book, a chronicle of work after 1988, is a record of her journey, and a visual feast.
For the month of August I would like the book to remain in the library, so come up and enjoy a look. Check-outs can start in September.

COMING IN SEPTEMBER
ROSEMARY EICHORN returns to our guild by popular demand, to tell of her long and unique journey as an artist and quilter, show us many of her quilts and wearables, and teach another of her amazing techniques for wearable art. Inspired by natureÕs hues and patterns and her northern California coastal environment, RosemaryÕs sumptuous designs are immensely appealing, her prizewinning methods easy to learn. Mark your calendar, and donÕt miss this illustrious guest! A lifelong lover of fabric and art, Eichorn combines them for the simple reason that it makes her happy! For more on our September speaker, check out her website: www.sewjourn.com and next monthÕs newsletter.
ROSEMARYÕS WORKSHOP
A two-day workshop, Saturday and Sunday September 16 and 17, will feature an elegant tunic of EichornÕs design (or your choice of patterns) as a blank canvas for easy, captivating soft-edge appliquˇ. In this workshop Rosemary will demystify surface design, and teach fancy threadwork methods, and other embellishments for quilts, garments, or other projects. Whether she is speaking or teaching, RosemaryÕs enthusiasm is deliciously infectious, her instruction clear and accessible. EichornÕs students rave about her classes, and love what they can do with fabric collage. To check on space available for this class, call Janet Windsor at 785-9521.
