Minutes of PPQG Guild meeting
January 19, 2007
The meeting was called to order by Donna Blum, in the absence of President Carol Tackett and VP Marilyn Limbaugh. Guests were introduced and new member(s) welcomed. Approximately 60 people attended this meeting.
Treasurer's Report: Donna reported for Kathye that we earned approximately $1450 from the Holiday Festival of the Trees and $181 from sales at the Dolphin Christmas Boutique.
Committee Reports:
Program: Gail Sims announced the next three workshops: Libby Lehman in February, Sally Collins in May, and the Beginning Piecing classes which start Feb. 22. The new pricing and sign-up system is outlined in our January newsletter, and in Sketches. Check our website for details.
Block of the Month—Renata will have a sample ready for February's meeting.
Web: Bonnie Toy announced that many have chosen not to receive their Bits and Pieces only online, saving the guild mailing costs of $10 per year per person. Email Bonnie if you would like to stop receiving your copy by regular mail. You can print your own PDF document on 8 ½ X 11 paper.
Retreat: Anita Kaplan reported that all final instructions, supply lists and directions to Vichy Springs and the Buddhist retreat, have been emailed to you. Also, be sure to check your sewing machine to make sure it is in good running order.
New Project: Anita introduced a new project for 2007: Bag O'Stuff. Instructions and details will be forthcoming. She brought an example of a Bag'O'Stuff quilt, and it looks like an interesting project. To participate, members should bring a 1-gallon bag filled with items from your quilting room to our March meeting. After a bag swap, members will make a quilt using items from the bag, returning the finished project to our September meeting.
Challenge: Polly reported that The Loft still has some challenge fabric available if you need more.
Comfort quilts: Polly Dakin reported that our stash is depleted, and all kinds of quilts are needed as quickly as possible.
AIR Quilt: Lola reported that all is going according to schedule.
Hospitality: Joyce Gaudet thanked cookie donors, and all attendees thanked Lola, Laura and Joyce for all their work.
Membership: Gail Spencer announced that Dues are now overdue, and must be paid to retain your membership in the guild. Please send your dues to Gail ASAP, as she needs to finalize the membership list.
Name Tags: Gail Spencer won the Name Tag Raffle.
Show and Tell: Lola's Mystery Quilt was spectacular. Donna presented Kathye Hitt with a beautiful friendship quilt made and signed by many guild members, to express our love and support for Kathye during this difficult time.
Steve Kaplan, President of the Coast Life Support District gave a presentation regarding the urgent need for funding the emergency services for our two-county coastal area. He made a very convincing case for a YES vote on Measure A in the March 6 special election.
Program: Quilt Artist Leslie Rego's in-depth lecture and slide show, ÒMy Love Affair with GuatemalaÓ, examined and illustrated the textiles, history, and culture of her adopted country. Ten years of living in that country greatly affected her life and her art. Leslie's trunk show included vintage textiles of Guatemala.
Gail Spencer reported for Membership, that Dues are now overdue, and must be paid to retain your membership in the guild. Please send your dues to Gail ASAP, as she needs to finalize the membership list.
