Pacific Piecemakers Quilt Guild
General Meeting
March 21, 2008

Meeting called to order by President Barbara Dunsmoor at 1:00 PM..

41 members and 3 guests were present.

TreasurerÕs report: Most of the dues are in for this year. EverythingÕs on budget.

Ways and Means: We have a newly adopted pro-rated fee schedule for dues. When one joins after the first half of the year, dues is less than the full $40.00 in accordance with the fee schedule.

Membership: We have 114 members including 4 with question marks.

Publicity: Wednesday (3/26) is the deadline for articles for the newsletter to be sent to Jeri Taylor.

Library: Ten new books and 2 replacements have increased PPQGÔs library with donations from Sylvia Keller, Jo Dillon, Annie Beckett, and Judith Jones. Approximately 30 books will be silent auctioned in April.

Hospitality: Sign-ups for providing refreshments are completely filled.

Festival of Trees: Sylvia Edwards is the new chair.

Special Events: A quilting retreat will be planned for next year (2009). We need about 30 members to sign up to make it viable.

2008 Quilt Challenge: Thanks were extended to Anna Hines for chairing the 2008 Quilt Challenge.

Anna thanked the following for helping: Laura Hamilton, Polly Dakin, Iris Lorenz-Fife, Janet Sears, Lola DeLongoria, Janet Windsor and her husband Dave, Gail Sims, the husband of Sue Lease, and AnnaÕs husband.

Votes for the Ultimate Quilt Challenge will be counted today after the meeting.

Comfort Quilts: Three quilts were given away this week. More quilts are always needed.

Quilts of Valor: The project is being continued this year with Marilyn Limbaugh as chair. Quilts of Valor is a national group that gives away donated new quilts to wounded servicemen and servicewomen. Marilyn and Carol Tackett delivered our last yearÕs quilts to service members at the military hospital in Palo Alto.

Marilyn will make every effort to send quilt tops that our Guild makes to a long-arm quilter. However, quilters can also finish quilts on their own. Patriotic themes seemed to be popular--but quilts are not limited to that. The suggested size is 53Óx64Ó; however, a size that comfortably covers a person laying down is suitable.

Block of the Month: It will be ready next month.

Art in the Redwoods: Working on it.

Studio Tour: Laurie Mueller announced a Studio Tour May 16 after the Guild meeting from 2 to 4 PM. SheÕs looking for 5 sewing studios to share with Guild members only.

Announcements: Point Arena High School Boosters would like a quilt to raffle.

Denny Gold has a collection of t-shirts that she would like made into a quilt.

Nametag Raffle won by: Sylvia Keller

The program speaker Karen Boutte was introduced. Her lecture title was  ÒAfrican American Quilts and Quilters-Quilts, Slavery and Freedom.Ó
