General Meeting

November 21, 2008

The meeting was called to order by President Barbara Dunsmoor at 1:00 p.m.

Executive Committee: The committee met for the first time today under the newly adopted by-laws. The 2009 budget was approved and will be published.

The 2009 PPQG program plans were presented. There will be 3 one-day workshops in March, September, and November. A three-day workshop is tentatively scheduled for June. Two Comfort Quilts/ Quilts of Valor workshops will be held during the year. In February, migrant women will bring their story quilts; we need to think about quilts we can show them. Mary Austin and Janet Sears will teach a 6-session drop-in intermediate piecing class instead of beginning quilting. Gail Sims will teach a class in hand applique.

Membership: $40 dues deadline is January 1. A little extra over the dues amount is always welcome as an angel gift. Anyone not paid by March will not be included in membership.

Newsletter: Deadline is November 25.

Hospitality: Thanks were extended for the goodies today.

Festival of Trees: Goods have been collected and Sylvia Edwards thanked those who have contributed.

Retreat: $101 for retreat attendees can be given to Jeri Taylor today.

College of the Redwoods will be holding a color dying class on Saturdays from 9:30 to 4:30 in Fort Bragg.

2009 Challenge Show: Entry deadline is April 7. Two quilts per person (a third is allowed as a group member). 30” x  60” maximum size. The show will hang from April 11 through May 3.

Comfort Quilts: Enough quilts are in stock for the next month.

Quilts of Valor: Marilyn showed 5 red, white, and blue quilts. The next delivery to soldiers is February.

Announcements: The Special Program chair created by passage of the by-laws has been filled by Sylvia Edwards.

Harmony Susalla and Jan Carter are curating a show of shopping bags, called “Paper N(O)r Plastic” at GAC May 9 through June 7. The registration fee to enter the show is $10 if you want a ready-made bag to decorate. If you create your own bag from scratch, the registration fee is $5. The bags can be sold through the show.

The holiday luncheon is December 12. The soup, salad, and dessert luncheon will be held in the foyer of GAC. Barbara Dunsmoor, Carol Tackett, and Marilyn Limbaugh will make clam chowder and vegetarian soup. Those will last names from A-L are asked to bring dessert; M-Z bring salads. Bring your own place settings.

Show and Tell elicited goods members have made for Festival of Trees.

Sylvia Keller won the name tag raffle.

Quilter’s Home magazine was displayed as a periodical available for subscription.

Quilter’s Escape 2009 is planned for May 10-14 in Fortuna.

Sue Arnold introduced Rami Kim whose topic “Fascination” addressed art to wear.
