PPQG GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
September 18, 2009

President Jan Carter called the meeting to order at 1:05.  She then read a thank you note from Nurse Shelley, to whom we had supplied fabric and books for her project.

The previous minutes were approved as written.

Programs:  Mary Smith introduced Mary Austin who described the Sashiko Workshop she will conduct on October 22.  She also invited members who might be interested in co-teaching the Beginning Quilt Workshop in February.

Festival of Trees:  Joyce Gaudet, subbing for Sylvia Edwards, announced that sewers are needed to make aprons for the sale, as well as someone to head up that committee.  She also asked that each member scan her recipes and come up with a “favorite” that would be included in a recipe packet.  Anita Kaplan pointed out the dolls her committee has made, and the crayon bags also for sale.

Challenge:  Karen Shanower reminded of the theme, “I Love Chocolate,” and pointed out that the required fabric is at The Loft.  If at least 15 quilters evince interest in the Ultimate Challenge, she will coordinate that effort.

Comfort Quilts:  Bette Covington presented a quilt.

Quilts of Valor:  Marilyn Limbaugh said that labels would be available at The Loft and The Dolphin.

Retreat:  Anita Kaplan announced that the retreat would be the first week in February, that there are 24 signed up, and that it would be closed soon so anyone wanting to join the group should let her know.

Membership:  Gail Spencer reported that we’re at 108 and holding.  She also described the Alzheimer’s project she is helping to coordinate.

Karen Shanower won the Name Tag Raffle.

Carol Tackett offered to collect the blocks for Barbara Dunsmoor’s quilt, and then described the Whisper Challenge which she is coordinating.

Show and Tell:  many stunning quilts were shown by the members.

The business meeting concluded, Sue Arnold introduced the featured speaker, Cathryn Zeleny.
