PPQG Monthly Meeting Minutes

January 15, 2010

Meeting called to order at 1:07 p.m. by president, Jan Carter

Minutes of November 2009 meeting approved (motioned by Anita Kaplan, seconded by Barbara Dunsmoor).

Treasurer’s Report: Kalynn Oleson reported a balance of $25,357.68.
                                Festival of Trees was successful.

Membership: Gail Spencer reported that 30+ members need to pay their dues. Anyone not paid up by the March meeting will be dropped from the guild. Jan Carter introduced 2 guests, Brenda and Emily.

Announcement: Mirka Knaster will attend the N.C.Q.C. on Jan. 20th and pick up any materials intended for PPQG.

Library: Anna Hines displayed new addition “Quilter’s Album of Patchwork Patterns”

Hospitality:  Thanks to Joyce G and Laura H for providing coffee and cookies.

Comfort quilts: please put at least your first name on the quilts. Recipients appreciate it.

2010 Challenge: Karen Shanower: Entry forms avail. @ GAC or PPQG web site & due by Feb 26. Delivery and hanging of quilts 10 a.m.-noon Mar 11. Please let Karen know if you and/or your husband can help. Opening reception 5-7 p.m. Mar 13. Bring appetizers to kitchen. (all entrants are morally obligated to bring an appetizer J).Show runs Mar 13 through Apr. 4. Takedown and pick up of entries 10 a.m.- noon Apr 5. 

Note: Mirka Knaster will help distribute flyers for the Challenge. Pick some up at the Feb. guild meeting. We want to blanket the area with flyers, from Jenner to Fort Bragg. Janet Windsor will design an educational poster. Laura Hamilton will photograph each entry and take pics at the opening. Thanks, ladies! Barbara Dunsmoor’s 9 year old granddaughter has completed a quilt for the Challenge. Barbara challenges you to involve young people under age 16 to partner with a guild member and enter a quilt. 

Name tag raffle won by Laura Hamilton.  Kalynn has cleaned out the Raffle basket and replenished it with new items. Wear your name tags! You may leave them between meetings in a box provided. Old contents of basket were sold at the meeting.

Retreat: Anita Kaplan: We have 23 participants and space for 2 more. If you want to attend, let her know within the next 2 weeks. Kalynn needs $20 more from each attendee.

Janet Windsor is making her last delivery to Threads of Life on Jan. 27.  If you have anything you want to donate, let Janet know by the 25th. Newsletter deadline is Jan 25.  

Show and Tell:  Mirka Knaster (2), Donna Blum for Marilyn L and Carol T, Kalynn  Oleson(3), Joyce Gaudet: There is a race car quilt left over from Festival of Trees. Will the maker please let her know if it was intended to be a comfort quilt if not sold?. Jan Carter showed basket art taught by Margie Binker.

Marva invites all members to “Saturday Morning Breakfast Club” at the Loft from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Gather to sew, knit, get help with a project, or exchange ideas. Bring your breakfast if desired. Coffee and tea will be provided.
