Annual Summer Picnic
Friday, July 21st
12:00 Noon
GAC Picnic Area
Following our usual format, this will be a salad luncheon, so please bring either a salad or a dessert. Drinks and breads will be provided.
Our ARTIST TRADING CARDS (ATC) are due, and we will be playing QUILTO. Please bring several fat quarters of fabric and some $1 bills, and maybe some buttons to use on the Quilto cards. All monies collected during the games will go to our guild.
AIR Entries Due Now
August is nearly here, and entry forms for Art in the Redwoods are being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a limit of 420 pieces accepted, so get your application and fill it out and turn it in. You can leave blank the sections on exactly what you are submitting, and fill that in later, but you must turn in the application in a timely fashion. Category 14 is Quilts, so don’t miss out. And remember we have no meeting in August.
Rosemary Eichorn Workshop
Rosemary Eichorn will be here for a two day workshop on September 16-17, from 10am to 4pm. She will be teaching the Talisman Tunic. Check with your program folks to find out if there is still room for you. If you are signed up, the supply list is now posted on the website.
Check out www.sewjourn.com for more information about Rosemary.
Guild Glimmers
by Cynthia Daniels
On Friday, June 16th, it was a beautiful day at the Gualala Art Center and you could hear the sewing machines humming from the parking lot! At least 16 Guild members showed up to attend the Comfort Quilt Workshop, which was held from 10 AM to 4 PM.
Polly Dakin indicated that we now have an adequate supply of comfort quilts, including some made in more masculine designs and fabrics. As usual, Laura Hamilton and Lola Delongoria outdid themselves in their Hospitality roles by providing attendees with a terrific lunch. The lunch included gourmet sandwich rolls, a meat and cheese platter, potato salad, fresh shrimp with cocktail sauce, and delectable cookies and brownies. Hats off, and many thanks, to Laura and Lola!
Carol Tackett made a presentation on her quilting version of Artist Trading Cards. Thanks to all Guild members that generously contributed their time and efforts to replenishing our Comfort Quilt supplies.
Quilting the Hall
Art Center Theater is getting ready to open another show and is, again, coming to you requesting the loan of quilts - particularly large quilts to hang behind the risers, as well as smaller quilts to hang on the walls of the auditoirum. Our beautiful quilts help to baffle the sound AND they look terrific decorating the auditioum. If you can help us out, please contact Lynne Atkins at 884-3838 or 884-1009 or Kathye Hitt at 884-3744. We will need the quilts delivered to the Arts Center on 7/10 and they will be returned on 7/31.
Oversight & Correction
Due to a miscommunication, the article about the AIR quilt in May’s issue of ‘Bits and Pieces’ left out the name of a crucial member of my team - Joyce Gaudet. Joyce worked tirelessly in order for the quilt to be completed in time and lined up the schedule for exhibiting it. I would like Joyce to be recognized for all the time and effort she has devoted to this project.
Thanks from Lola DeLongorio.

Mystery Quilters have fun “Cutting Up”
Members attending the June meeting were treated to a review of the 2006 Mystery Quilt. A once-a-month project, quilters work one hour each month with their own fabrics. The project requires only 2 yards of a favorite background fabric and 6 different coordinating fat quarters.
The supplies list and Part 1,2,3 were distributed to many interested quilters. Part 4 (July) is listed on the PPQG Web site. Future Mystery quilt directions will appear each month on the PPQG web site and be handed out at meetings until October when the quilt top will be complete. Additional copies can also be found at The Loft.
This is great project for using favorite fabrics from your stash. The entire quilt top can be made in a three day weekend or you can do one part each month and finish your top in October.
Committee members include: Molly Buckley, Ellen Soule, Ruth Hayflick, Polly Dakin, and Donna Blum. This year’s project features “cut as you go” and simplified diagrams for each section. The project is appropriate for beginners and advanced quilters alike.
Start now, pick your favorite fabrics and have fun making a quilt you will love. Each quilt will be unique and can be displayed at the Holiday Guild Luncheon. All of the committee members will be glad to answer questions or call Donna Blum at 785-3625 or Email at dblum@mcn.org.
